Tom Deland Sr. passed away peacefully on July 30th after a brief illness. He was 86 years old. Tom was born on Staten Island, NY where he met and married Marie Carmella Cippoletti in 1953. Together they raised three children. Marie preceded Tom Sr. in death passing in 2003. Tom is survived by his three children, Tom (retired Broomfield Police Chief) and his wife Linda, Kathy (Deland) Novotny and her husband Steve and Karen (Deland) Lewin and her husband Rod. Tom Sr. was also blessed with six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. One grandson, Thomas Carmine Deland preceded him in death passing in 1981. Tom Sr. started working for Western Electric in 1951. In the early 1970's he moved his family to Broomfield when Western Electric opened a new plant in Westminster. He remained a member of the Bell System until his retirement in 1986. Tom Sr. was a fun-loving family man his entire life who adored his beautiful wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He spent countless hours with his friends playing cards, golfing and gambling in Las Vegas. Once you were a friend of Tom's you were a friend for life. Tom Sr. served for eight years as a member of the NY State National Guard and as a past-president of the Nativity Knights of Columbus. A mass will be held for Tom on Thursday, 8/2 at 10:00am at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church in Broomfield. Interment will follow at the Louisville Cemetery.
